The FAA certification process for aviation mechanics requires passing written, oral, and practical tests for either or both Airframe (A) and Powerplant (P) ratings, collectively called the A&P Certificate. Preparing for the interview and tests involves reviewing maintenance procedures, demonstrating operational knowledge, and understanding FAA regulations and testing standards.

Key Preparation Tips for the FAA Mechanic Interview

  • Study FAA handbooks: AMT-General Handbook, Airframe Handbook, Powerplant Handbook.
  • Understand and be able to explain maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.
  • Be ready to discuss use of specific test equipment and how to document work and test results.
  • Practice behavioral questions on responsibility, communication with supervisors, and quality assurance.
  • Familiarize yourself with relevant FAA regulations, especially 14 CFR part 65.

This preparation will help candidates confidently handle technical, operational, and situational questions during the FAA mechanic certification interview and oral/practical test.
