Emirates is one of the most renowned Airlines in the world, offering top-class service to the elite, as well as to everyday travelers. If you want to become a member of this distinguished company and fly the skies, you should prepare for the extensive selection process the company requires.
Note that not all countries are the same, but you can base yourself in this guide to face any selection process with confidence. There are 3 steps you should know about:
1. ONLINE QUESTIONNAIRE
You will have to fill in this form, where they will filter your profile to match their mandatory requirements to become a flight attendant, and beware: they will test you for these in the next step, and lying about any of those in your file may hinder your selection process and, if you manage to hide for long enough, may get you fired during training.
The mandatory requirements are:
- Fluent in written and spoken English (and Unlock can help you get there!)
- Minimum height of 160cm
- Minimum of 21 years old
- Have finished high school
- Have a clean criminal record
- No visible tattoos while in Emirates uniform
- At least 1 year of experience in hospitality and/or customer service
2. RECRUITMENT DAY
If you match the requirements, you will get an email from the company with the details of the next recruitment day (or open day) in the country you chose.
You should arrive early, have your documents and CV with you, and be ready to spend the whole day at the venue. In my experience, it was key to have a good breakfast before and bring a snack to eat during the break, so I could keep my focus during the selection process.
You can expect to be assessed in various things such as:
- Height and reach test
- English language quiz
- Self introduction
- Group activities

3. FINAL INTERVIEW
If you are approved in all the steps above, they will ask you to come to the final interview with the company. Depending on where you attend the selection process, the final interview might be on the same day, or even a week later.
In the final interview, you might be asked:
- Why would you like to work for Emirates
- What is your experience in customer service
- How would you feel about moving to Dubai
- What is your biggest quality
- What is your biggest flaw
- How do you feel about working in multicultural teams
- Tell a story about when you helped a friend

4. BONUS TIPS
Always come dressed in formal attire, preferably office attire. For girls, knee high skirt, chamise and blazer are best, make sure to wear transparent stockings and heels are a plus, but nothing too flashy. No big jewelry, no fuschia pink, no super long nails, no dangerously high heels: be modest and elegant. Tie your hair into a neat bun and wear the iconic Emirates red lipstick, as if you are already an Emirates cabin crew. Remember to smile, be confident and polite to everyone: they are observing you at all times.
For boys, use a nice suit, formal shoes, clean shirt, make sure to shave your beard and smell good. The haircut is important too: not too short nor too long, just elegant. Just make sure your grooming is on point, nails are trimmed, and remember to smile, be confident and kind to people.
All the process is conducted in English, and you are expected to speak the language well. No other language is required, or previous degree or experience in the aviation industry, although it would be a plus. That's why Unlock has prepared (......)
