Hello students!

There are so many different ways to expand your vocabulary today, repetition and associations are among my favourite ones, and that is why I am bringing you now, one of our students' favourite games ever, Call of Duty, and some of its most common phrases focus on tactical callouts, movement techniques, and performance descriptions.

Essential terms include "One-shot" (enemy is low health), "Push" (advance), "Flank" (take a side route), "Lit" (damaged), and "UAV" (spy plane). Other key lingo includes "Camping" (hiding), "Sweaty" (playing hard), "Dropshot" (prone while shooting), and "GG" (good game).

Key Call of Duty Lingo & Phrases

  • Tactical/Callouts:
    • "One-shot" / "One": The enemy is severely damaged and needs one more hit.
    • "Lit": An enemy has taken significant damage.
    • "Ping": Marking an enemy or location.
    • "Flank": Taking a side route to ambush.
    • "Cross-map": A shot or throw from one side of the map to the other.
    • "Wallbang": Killing an enemy through a surface.
  • Gameplay/Movement:
    • "Dropshot": Going prone while firing to confuse enemies.
    • "Jump Shot": Jumping around a corner while firing.
    • "Slide Cancel": A movement technique to reset tactical sprint.
    • "Mounting": Placing a weapon on cover for stability.
  • Performance/General Slang:
    • "Sweaty": A player trying extremely hard, often using meta tactics.
    • "Meta": Using the most effective, popular weapons/loadouts.
    • "Chalked": The game/situation is over or lost.
    • "Clutch": Winning a difficult 1vX situation.
    • "Frying": A player performing exceptionally well.
    • "Traded": Killing an enemy immediately after they kill a teammate.
  • Common Commands:
    • "Push/Pushing": Advancing on the enemy.
    • "Hold": Defending a specific position.
    • "Rotate": Moving to the next objective area.
